High School Winter Concert is a Huge Success

Last Wednesday night, the Groton-Dunstable Regional High School Music Program hosted its annual winter concert. The concert featured performances by the Concert Band, Chorus, Drum Corps, Jazz Band, and Chamber Chorus, showcasing all that GD Music has to offer.

At the end of the night, the music program had brought in close to $1600 in ticket sales, which will go towards offsetting the costs of the annual music trip, along with providing scholarships for a few students.
For Livy Thompson, a senior in the Chamber Chorus, this concert was particularly special. “My last winter concert was amazing,” she recounted afterwards. “It is a great feeling to work on something for so long and be able to present it with greatness and pride. It marks a transition into my final semester of high school where I will be working on my last set of songs with the Chamber Chorus. It was a very emotional time, but I am excited to see what lies ahead.”
There was very little rest for Livy and the rest of the Chamber kids, because a few days later, they were performing again, busking at Faneuil Hall in Boston, raising money for their trip to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City with famed composer Eric Whitacre.

This week, all the ensembles will be giving their last performances of the season, playing and singing all over the district. It’s been a great first semester for music at GD, but semester two is sure to have much more in store!
