Sweet Vanilla : Artist statement

FireShot Capture 004 - Untitled document - Google Docs - docs.google.com

Sweet Vanilla is the name of my artwork. It is of a vanilla flower growing on a vine up the side of the old grey wall. The subject matter I considered in my painting was how the sweet taste of vanilla could be captured in the contrast of the grey wall to the yellow flower was perfect for that.  The lighting is an obvious element of the painting. My painting was made from painting paper and watercolor paint. I used wet on wet, dry on dry and also salt for my techniques used in the painting. I used multiple different kinds of paintbrushes for my tools. The botanica garden and it’s many flowers, this painting shows that feeling of happiness breaking through sadness. My goals as an artist is to be able to make realist creations in almost all mediums, This painting taught me that watercolor painting is harder than I remembered and less can mean a lot more in making it realist, I think it was a pretty good painting but it could use a lot of improvement knowing what I now know about watercolor painting. My goal was met but pretty much barely. This painting has taught me what to do and not to do while watercolor painting and in the future I will use the skills I learned about how to shade effectively and clearly in my advantage to make better more realistic paintings using watercolor. I think my picture is kind of what I wanted but I shaded the flower to much and it lost a lot of its vibrancy I wanted overall 6.8 /10 of what I wanted.
