Old Times in Colors
Old Times in Colors

My artwork has all different kinds of symbols to describe my life and me. The things I have gone through, the things I enjoy, the things I treasure. I like to name my artwork “Old Times in Colors” because movies made from 1930-60 were in black and white, to imply the past years of my life. The reason why I said “colors” instead of “black and white” because, for example, it’s hard to tell what’s going in a picture when it’s in black and white. The objects can be in many different colors in real life, however, in an image, we only see different shades of black. My artwork shows the truth about my life and me by filling my face with symbols and colors. I used metaphors like yellow roses to show I value friendship, and cracks can be seen on the side of roses to show my friends made me feel less lonely and stronger. I made my artwork by using prism color pencils because I’m not good with acrylic paints and watercolor would be hard to do. I also used a sharpie to outline the words on my artwork to make it easier to read. I used different shades of colors to add a 3D effect to the face to make it look more real, also a type of symbolism to show I’m more of a realistic person. My artwork expresses powerful meanings and reflects how much I have grown for the past few years. It makes me feel proud of myself and thankful for the people and the things that helped me grow. I try to make the artwork look happy, but that was preventing me from reaching my goal. I want to express the truth. And to do that, I have to express sadness, anger, and darkness too. My goal as an artist was to make my artwork as beautiful and meaningful as it can be. As a result, I was able to reach my goal to make my artwork appear significant and pretty. Overall, I enjoyed making my artwork since I find it hard to communicate to people in words, and because of that, many don’t know who I am. But, this artwork gave me a chance to express myself and to communicate with people.Â
