Self-Portrait of Jar

IMG-2379

My self-portrait is really cool and I spent a lot of time working on it. It is a drawn picture of my face that is incorporated into different symbols that are meaningful to me or represent me. I created my artwork by using mostly colored pencils. I sketched it in pencil first and then went over the drawing with a sharpie. Finally, after being shaded in, I used different pieces of paper taped together to make the background. It is like a collage of the paper which is green and red in the background. There were a couple of things that inspired my artwork. First off, my family was a big part of my artwork. On both of my ears, I have me and one of my parents. Also, I have a paw print drawn on my face to represent my dog, Oakley.  Also, a factor in, my artwork was showing that I was Jewish, so I drew a Star of David necklace hanging from my neck. One goal for my artwork was to show what I enjoy doing. I think I achieved this goal by doing a couple of things. I have baseball stitches lining my nose, a basketball on my cheek, and skis on my lips. By using these I could get my point across that I enjoyed sports and therefore I achieved my goal. I learned a couple of things while creating my artwork. The first is that I can’t just color everything with colored pencils. It will look uneven and not clean. Plus, I learned that if you make a good sketch from the start, it sets up your whole art and you will have a good outcome. Overall, I thought I did an excellent job on this project.
