Rising Star Wrabel Lights Up Performance

Groton, Massachusetts – After a long morning of PSAT testing last Wednesday, October 25th, the Groton-Dunstable Regional High School ended their school day with a performance by an up-and-coming singer-songwriter, Wrabel. The school’s Music Honors Society chose to host the artist — who has gained millions of online fans since a song of his was used in a 2014 Super Bowl commercial — after Mr. Timothy Savoy, the school’s music teacher, found out about him. “Once I heard his awesome singing voice, I knew that I had to get him to our school,” Mr. Savoy said after the fact.

The event took place in the Black Box Theater, where 250 students and teachers packed in to see him. With just a piano and his powerful voice, Wrabel performed three electrifying songs and blew the audience away. After his performance was over, he opened up for a half-hour long question and answer session with the audience where he not only responded to their questions but truly interacted with them. Topics centered around not just music, but LGBT acceptance as well, as Wrabel is an openly gay artist. Students and staff alike wanted to know about his experiences and about what they could do to be more accepting and to create a better environment for all members of the GDRHS community.

Wrabel’s reception with open arms and open minds by all who attended the event showed that the GDRHS community truly lives by its values of tolerance and acceptance. The event had an overall positive impact on all who attended it and sent students home feeling optimistic and inspired.
