Narrative Artwork

Scarlett Foley - Narrative Artwork

My artwork is a painting of a girl in a snowy forest while she thinks about somewhere warm with buildings and palm trees. My artwork is a canvas painting using acrylic and watercolor paints. One of the techniques I used to create a kind of mixed-blue background was putting water on the canvas with a brush and then mixing in small amounts of blue paint and spreading the color around. Something that inspired my artwork was when I moved from California to Massachusetts, and expresses the internal conflict of missing where I used to live. An emotion I tried to convey was longing or sadness. My goal for this artwork was to use the new painting techniques I learned over the summer and I got to use them in this painting so I did achieve my goal. Something I learned in creating this artwork is that I am not good at painting small details. The piece was not how I imagined it and it will influence my future paintings because I will learn from my mistakes and hopefully do better next time.Â
