Districts 2018

This past Saturday, around 25 dedicated students from GD’s music program auditioned for the Central District Massachusetts Chorus and Concert Band. Each of these ensembles are comprised of over 100 kids from a variety of schools in Central Massachusetts joining together to perform in a grand concert in Mechanics Hall (which will take place this January). 10 students made it into the Chorus: Josh Booth, Jem Booth, Taryn Emerle, Matt Liliedahl, Andrew McCusker, Finn McGillivray, Emily Miller, Neil Prestia, Olivia Ray and Matt Sucheki; 3 students made it into the Concert Band: Henry Vandermillen, Emily Rimkus and Max Wheeler. Not only that, but 6 students got All-State recommendations: Taryn Emerle, Andrew McCusker, Matt Liliedahl, Matt Sucheki, Henry Vandermillen and Max Wheeler.

These are very impressive numbers for GD’s music program, and students like Andrew McCusker are very excited to partake in this concert. Andrew has sang in the District Chorus for the past 2 years, and says, “It’s something I always look forward to, it’s great to meet and connect with so many people. Performing in a choir of that size and in such an incredible venue is so exciting.”

Andrew is also a longstanding member of GD’s Chamber Choir, which has a number of exciting events coming up, such as a fundraising performance at St. Joseph’s Church in Pepperell on December 2nd at 2 pm. Looking forward, GD’s Winter Concert will be taking place on December 11th at 7pm, and will showcase the talent and dedication of the entire music program, so be sure to mark your calendars!
