Self Portrait Artist Statement

My Self Portrait was created with a blend of watercolor, such as brown, red and peach, to create the different shades needed to color my face in the most artistic way.  The background uses colored pencils of the colors red, green, and brown.  After blending colors, I used sharpie to correctly make my lines bolder.

This piece was inspired by my 6th grade skull drawing project, in which I correctly structured my face to the enth degree.  I used the bone structure found in my original piece to correctly shape the face of my self-portrait.

Creating this self portrait has helped me to continue to grow as an artist.  My personal goal is to create realistic self portrait art, to the point, in which it looks like a photograph, also known as photo-realism.  I know that every time I draw a self portrait better each time and even closer to reaching my goal.

My Self Portrait is exactly not what I thought it would look like.  I wasn’t able to properly execute my envision of how the watercolors will turn out.  My actual sketch, I believe, is better than my final product. My future artwork will be completed in a similiar style reworked to the best of my ability to create the best piece as possible.
