Richard Ramirez was born in El Paso, Texas to Julian and Mercedes Ramirez. His father was violent and abusive, so Richard became close with his cousin Miguel Ramirez. Miguel fought in Vietnam where he raped and murdered Vietnamese women. He then took pictures with their bodies which he then showed to Richard. Miguel later murdered his wife while Richard was with them. Richard then moved in with his sister whose husband named Roberto was a stalker that spied on women. Richard Ramirez’s father, Miguel, and Roberto all influenced him in a very negative way. Ramirez went to school at Jefferson High School, but dropped out during his freshman year. Ramirez went on a crime spree in which he robbed homes, raped women, and brutally murdered many victims. During his spree he killed 13 people, sexually assaulted 11 people, and attempted to murder 5 other people. The crime spree started in San Francisco and ended in East Los Angeles and lasted from April 10, 1984 to August 30, 1985. Ramirez was a Satanist so just did because he enjoyed violence. There was very little physical evidence left at the crime scenes. The only things the police found were fingerprints and Avia shoe prints at some of the scenes. I expected there to be much more evidence because Ramirez did not seem to take much care when he committed his crimes. They were random and brutal not planned and calculated. Investigators were able to get Ramirez as a suspect by identifying his fingerprints that were at some of the crime scenes. The automated fingerprint identification system were recently set up and this system identified Ramirez’s fingerprints quickly because of his past criminal activities. Surviving victims were then able to identify Ramirez and his gun was a match to one of the guns used in the murders. Ramirez was given a death sentence, but he never confessed to his crimes. He tried to get an appeal in 2006, but the California Supreme Court upheld his death sentence. He continue to try to get an appeal until he died in 2013 from B-cell lymphoma. Ramirez became famous because of how evil and brutal his crimes were and because of how long he lasted. Citizens of California became terrified of him and gave him the name “The Night Stalkerâ€Â.
