I created this work because I wanted to show the human effect on coral reefs. Quickly we are destroying millions of years of evolution. Ever since I was little I loved looking at coral reefs and their diverseness. I loved many of the different fish and was sad to learn that ½ of the world’s coral reefs have died in the past thirty years. In this piece, I would definitely change how much plants and fish and crabs are in this scene to correctly reflect how crowded coral reefs truly are. Through this artwork, I tried to convey a feeling of sadness as the scene goes on there is less and less color and eventually none. I used oil pastels in this piece because I could use them to blend all of the different colors of a coral reef.
