My Portrait Artist Statement

By: Hannah Stark

Day 1 first half

I created my self-portrait with chalk pastels and watercolors. I took the drawing of my face and used cardboard to make it rise up higher than the paper to have a cool effect.

My background was made with watercolor paint, with paint splatters all over (not on the face). Using chalk pastels I made different symbols on my face representing things that I like. I used the chalk pastels so that I could blend colors together to make my artwork look more realistic. When I created my art I wanted to have a different element to I propped the face up from the paper using stacks of cardboard.

Some things that inspired my artwork were things that I liked, such as soccer, basketball, the colors blue and pink and the summer. While making this artwork I tried to express happiness because I always try to stay positive.

My goals for this artwork were to make subtle details that you could still see character from. I think that I succeed in this goal for a few reasons such as having different dimensions on my artwork, and incorporating my favorite colors, green blue and purple into it.

While creating my artwork I learned that subtle details can make a big difference. I also learned that you can have different dimensions in my work. I am overall pretty happy with my final product and it came out how I wanted it.
