Polluted City

Artist Statement

The subject matter of my work is how the Earth will continue to look if humans continue to pollute it the way that we have. My artwork shows a city with all the buildings releasing smokey, gray air into the atmosphere. In the drawing there is also a road going through the city to a neighborhood full of houses, none of the houses are polluting, but the gray smoke is still above them. To create my piece I used a ruler, pencils, and colored pencils. First I drew the whole picture in pencil, and then colored it. My work expresses a social issue because it is not just one person, lots of people and companies are part of the issue.I tried to show sadness in my art by coloring mostly gray and dark colors because that will be the way that the Earth will continue to go if we don’t fix it. My goals were to really reflect how the Earth will be affected by pollution. My final piece is what I imagined it would be, a city that is slowly dying from pollution. 20190306_105544
