Artist statement
I created this piece because I wanted to show how human activity has a very real and very severe impact on our planet. I chose to show this with buildings producing smoke because that is a very common image that is used to portray the way humans impact the environment. The smoke then billows out to an iceberg which is melting into a big wave of water that rushes into the city. I believe this clearly represents how humans are hurting themselves with the methods we use every day to get through life. I used colored pencil because I find that it is easier to work with and blend than paint. It is also easier to manipulate around the curves and lines of my piece. One thing I would change about my artwork is the iceberg and the water. I would change the way they blend together. My vision was that the iceberg would melt and easily blend into the water however, I think that they look completely separate and not like the iceberg is melting. I think my artwork conveys a sad emotion. I believe this because it is showing how humans are seriously affecting the earth which in turn hurts us. I learned a lot about shading during creating this piece but other than art I learned more about global warming and climate change altogether. I learned a lot about how we can prevent climate change and how we started it. ÂÂ
