Artist Statement (Self Portrait won’t download)

My self-portrait consisted of markers, colored pencils, watercolor and paint. I included my heritage flags, the color green, basketballs, fruit, etc. to represent what makes me into a portrait. For the background I blended purple, pink and blue to make an ombre. After doing that I splattered white paint to make it look like stars. I drew lines onto the project to show texture, neatness and to make the objects more distinct.

Creating my artwork helped me get better as an artist. This piece of art helped me get to my goal of making something nice. Even though I like my artwork I could have spent more effort into the final piece. During the process of doing my sketch I should have not crammed all my symbols into one area and instead spread them out.

My artwork was inspired by Giuseppe Arcimbaldo since he used fruit in his portrait. I used some of his art in my portrait’s hair.

My final piece looked very different from my sketch but I liked the way it turned out. Next time I do another project I will take more time on the sketch to make sure I know I will use it for the final drawing.
