Throughout the term, many known, controversial, and difficult topics were brought up. Simple inheritance patterns were made more complicated with linkage, and debatable topics like GMOs quickly formulated opinions between myself and my family. The most interesting topic presented was epigenetics, as I know many twins and can now look at what makes them different even deeper. However, through the whole term, something felt off, and I now know what it is.
Epigenetics was the most interesting to me because a quarter of my friends are twins. The knowledge did not stick with me until I actually brought up the discussion with my closest twin friends. It was that life connection that made me want to look deeper into the topic beyond projects. GMOs also stuck with me because of the debates my family would have about the morality and repercussions on the subject. What made topics stand out was the interaction and effect it made on outside conversation, and the interaction allowed my knowledge to expand on the work given. And on a personal course like Genetic Diseases, personal interaction is crucial in understanding such a grand subject.
(Or maybe more teachings and interactions could have been made in class. Or I’m thinking too deep into it. Regardless, it was still a fun term)
