My piece of artwork depicts three girls sitting together in a dressing room. They are dressed in sweat clothing and their hair is up in a bun. There is a large, illuminated mirror behind them with a black costume rack to their right. The girls also have two gym bags to their left.ÂÂ
I created this piece of artwork using simple materials. I used pencils to outline the features of the girls and to add a thin, dark line to everything in the image. I used thin markers to color in the vibrant shapes and highlighter to emphasize the labels and signs in the background.
The big idea behind my artwork was that I wanted to depict a group of me and my friends in the dressing rooms at the Long Center in Austin, Texas. We were soldiers and angels in the Ballet Austin production of the Nutcracker. It was such an amazing time, we were able to really just have fun with each other there, it was just one of the happiest times of my life, and I wanted to tell that story with my art.ÂÂ
My goals for this piece were to really experiment with the materials that I had readily available to me. In art projects, we are almost always using specialty materials such as oil pastels and clay. But this time, I wanted to explore with the more basic tools that I had on hand. Another goal of this artwork was to tell this story. I really wanted to show people that you can have fun just about anywhere, shown here as one of the best times that I have ever had, simply waiting for our cue.ÂÂ
An overall thought that I have about this artwork is that I am quite proud of it. I was able to draw people in a way that was cartoonish, but not childish. I really wanted to make something that would make people smile when they looked at it, and I believe that I did that pretty well here.ÂÂ
